2023 APOD Walk for a Veteran with PTSD

Starting at  Seacliff SLSC breakfast will be available for those starting from Seacliff at 7am. At the finish of the first 14km at Henley Square, a refreshment station and BBQ will be available. The second 14km will see walkers travel from Henley Square to Mirani Court Reserve, West Lakes Shore and back to Henley Square. Lunch will be provided at the end of the second leg. The third leg is Henley Square returning to Seacliff SLSC.

 

Participants who register for the 14km walk must choose a starting location:

Seacliff 7am

Henley Square 10am

Henley Square 1pm

There will be live music at Seacliff SLSC from 3pm until 8pm. A special WFAV dinner menu will be available from 5pm, and will be included in the fees for those who register for the 28km and 42km distance. Ghost Wines will also be at the finish offering wine tastings to participants and their guests.

 

Registration fees are:

28km $55

42km $65

 

The walk continues to draw attention to the physical and mental health issues that affect many military and emergency services personnel and their families. We want to provide all that attend an opportunity to show their support and gain some further insight into these issues. Money raised from the event will be donated to our chosen charities.

 

 

Our chosen charity partners in 2023 will be Partners of Veterans Association Australia to fund our PVA Scholarship, and SA Police Legacy.

2022 SmartBar Walk for a Veteran with PTSD

On Saturday 27th August the 2022 SmartBar Walk for a Veteran with PTSD moves back to the Adelaide Beaches. The route starts at Henley Square, to Osborne Foreshore and finishes at Seacliff.

A BBQ breakfast supplied by Henley Surf Life Saving Club will begin at 06.30am, with the official start of the walk at 7am. Walkers travel north for 14km along the beach to refreshment station and turnaround point at the Osborne Foreshore. The second 14km option and the 28km walk start from this point at 10am. From Osborne Foreshore the event heads south back to Henley Square for lunch and the beginning of third 14km option at 1pm. From Henley Square the walkers head for the finish line at Seacliff Surf Life Saving Club.

Medical support from St John Ambulance will be across the 42km course from 7am at Henley Square, through to the finish at Seacliff Surf Life Saving Club.

2021 The GOV WFAV Fundraising Concert

Funds from the 2021 The Gov WFAV event will support an exhibition of photos from our event earlier this year; SmartBar Walk for a Veteran with PTSD. We will ask people to submit a photo from the walk and include a caption about the photo and why they walk and support veterans and the emergency services. We will choose 15 of them to be framed and presented as a SALA exhibition at the Henley and Grange RSL. 

2021 SmartBar Walk for a Veteran with PTSD

Mt Crawford Bennett's Reserve, Chain of Ponds SA

Walk for a Veteran Inc in conjunction with Forestry SA and Heroes on the Homefront, will hold the 2021 SmartBar Walk for a Veteran with PTSD on Saturday 28th August 2021 entirely within the Mt Crawford Bennett's Reserve in the northern Adelaide Hills, located 33km north east from the Adelaide CBD.

A 10km loop has been created totally on the trails of the Reserve, of which 1/3 will be on the renowned Heysen Trail. The course will rise to 450m above sea level and provide some incredible views over the valleys below. Secure camping sites will be available on the Friday and Saturday night, with off-road parking provided. Emergency medical support will be across the 10km course from 6am Saturday.

 

We are giving individuals the option of completing one, two, three or four laps of the course. Teams can complete the 40km as a team of 2 or 4 each completing one or two 10km laps. The start and finish of each lap will be from the same location, which will be the venue for the post event activities.

2021 will see the introduction of the first after walk concert starting at 2pm.  We will have something for everyone with Hollow Coves (QLD) joining some amazing SA artists, such as Germein, The Timbers, Cosmo Thundercat, Jordan D'Sena, Horse Lords, Yorke Heath, and Lucinda Grace from the Adelaide Hills. Yorke Heath and Mark Aiston will be our Masters of Ceremonies across the day. We are inviting non walking general public to join walkers for the concert which will go well into the evening, to show support for our veterans and emergency services.

Spinifex Brewing Co. and Ghost Wines, plus local food trucks will be set up in the start/finish area from 12pm for the duration of the festival.
