It is not often that drinking beer and saving a life go hand in hand. Western Australia-based craft beer company Spinifex Brewing Co is donating 50 per cent of the profits from sales of its F88 Premium Lager to support military charities.
One of those is Walk for a Veteran Inc., a South Australian charity event aimed at supporting veterans and emergency service personnel struggling with post-traumatic stress disorder through the annual SmartBar Walk for a Veteran with PTSD held in the Adelaide Hills in August.
The Woodside Hotel celebrated the local launch of the beer – named for the F88 Austeyr rifle – on Monday. The Hills pub, along with the Elizabeth RSL, are the only places in SA to have the F88 Lager on tap, with Challa Gardens Hotel and Parafield Airport Liquor Store selling the cans. Half of all profit from SA sales will go to Walk for a Veteran Inc.
The chairman of the charity, Chad McLaren, hoped for a statewide distribution of F88 by Anzac Day.“I think it would be great to see as many venues as possible support the campaign by Anzac Day,” Mr McLaren said.“Everyone will be out having a drink with their mates, so I hope more venues will support (the campaign).
“With partnerships with like-minded companies such as Spinifex, Walk for a Veteran is looking to increase the reach of our health and well-being message, attract more walkers and sponsors to enable us to donate more than ever before in 2021.”Event director Luke Adamson hoped to attract 600 participants to the event, which had a fundraising target of $120,000.
Proceeds from the walk will be distributed between the Australian Professional Firefighters Foundation, Hearts4Heroes op shop, the CFS Foundation and Trojan’s Trek.
“We are also in talks to have people camp there, so they can safely enjoy an F88 before and after the walk,” Mr Adamson said.
